City - Kemenlu Holds ASEAN Goes to Schools

The Jakarta Provincial Government together with Foreign Ministry (Kemenlu) held ASEAN Goes to Schools in two senior high schools in Central and South Jakarta.

And hopefully it can be remembered by children

Jakarta Regional Cooperation Bureau (KSD)'s  Third Party Cooperation Section Head, Yudi Hermawan said ASEAN Goes to Schools was held at SMAN 68, Jalan Salemba Raya 18, RT 03/06, Kenari, Senen and SMKN 57, Jalan Taman Margasatwa Raya, RT 12/05, Jati Padang, Pasar Minggu with 500 students participating.

"It is in the context of ASEAN's 56th Anniversary and ASEAN Summit in Jakarta in September," he expressed, Tuesday (8/8).

He explained students were socialized with various kinds of programs from Southeast Asian countries.

"In essence, this is an opportunity for school children to get more detailed information about ASEAN," he explained.

As the host, the Jakarta Government warmly welcomed the ASEAN Summit. This support was echoed by holding the 2023 Meeting of Governors/Mayors of ASEAN Capitals (MGMAC) and ASEAN Mayors Forum (AMF) which was held on August 1-2, 2023.

"Regional heads from various countries came to present issues of developing cities in Southeast Asia," he explained.

ASEAN Socio-Cultural Cooperation Directorate's Associate Diplomat, Kristin Revina added that the socialization was held at schools because the role of young people is an important part of Indonesia in supporting the ASEAN Summit.

"They have to face many global and regional challenges. This also becomes part of the ASEAN anniversary celebration," she uttered.

With this socialization, the participants were expected to gain new experiences and knowledge.

"And hopefully it can be remembered by children and become a valuable experience for them," she hoped.

Kamila (17), a student at SMAN 28 Jakarta was happy to be able to take part in ASEAN Goes to Schools. Besides adding insight into ASEAN, it was also deemed very interesting with discussions and questions and answers with the Representative of the Indonesian Ambassador to Timor Leste.

"It's so exciting. Moreover, many friends from other schools threw questions at each other. So, the merrier the atmosphere," she admitted.

Similar statement also came out from another student from SMKN 57 Jakarta, Maulidya (17). She considered this activity very exciting because it was filled with discussions with representatives of friendly countries and quizzes about ASEAN.

"Very happy. Hopefully, the younger generation will be the successors of a good nation," he stressed.
